Backup Storage and Retention
Stack2X securely stores your backups so they're available whenever you need them. Each plan includes a set amount of storage, and understanding how storage and retention work helps you make the most of it.
Storage Limits by Plan
Each Stack2X plan comes with a different amount of backup storage:
| Plan | Storage Limit |
|---|---|
| Free | 1 GB |
| Starter | 10 GB |
| Pro | 50 GB |
| Business | 200 GB |
Storage is measured across all backups in your organization. This includes every backup for every connected instance, so keep an eye on your usage if you're backing up multiple projects.
Checking Your Storage Usage
To see how much storage you're using, go to Organization Settings in the sidebar and look for the Storage section. You'll see a breakdown of total storage used, how much each instance is consuming, and how much space remains on your plan.
Stack2X also shows storage usage on the Backups page. Each backup displays its size, making it easy to identify which ones are taking up the most space.
Retention Policy
Stack2X keeps your backups for as long as they fit within your storage limit. There is no automatic expiration -- backups remain available until you delete them or run out of storage.
If your storage is full, you won't be able to create new backups until you free up space. Stack2X notifies you when you're approaching your limit so you have time to clean up or upgrade your plan.
Deleting Old Backups
To free up storage, you can delete backups you no longer need:
- Go to the Backups page from the sidebar.
- Find the backup you want to remove.
- Click the three-dot menu on the backup and select Delete.
- Confirm the deletion.
Deleted backups cannot be recovered, so make sure you've downloaded anything you might need before removing it. You can also delete individual components from a backup if you only need to reclaim some space without removing the entire backup.
Tips for Managing Storage
Create selective backups -- If you only need to protect your database, skip storage buckets and edge functions to save space.
Set a regular cleanup schedule -- Review your backups monthly and remove outdated ones. Keeping every backup forever fills up your storage quickly.
Upgrade when needed -- If you're consistently running out of space, consider moving to a higher plan. Check out Understanding Plans and Billing to compare your options.
Download before deleting -- Before removing old backups from Stack2X, download them to your local machine or another storage service as an extra safety net.
